Pat Dunne and Sheila Sheridan, Childminding Advisors in Dublin North Central, have been busy with training for childminders in 2008, and they expect to run several other courses and workshops in the Autumn/Winter.
1. Quality Awareness Programme
The new directive from the Office for the Minister for Children stipulates that all minders must have completed this programme in order to be able to avail of the new, updated equipment grant €1000.
The childminding Advisers ran two QAPs, one in March and the other in September.
Many of the Childminders were delighted with the opportunity to participate in the Quality Awareness Programme. Due to the demand and the prerequisite for the childminders development grant, we will be running two more QAPs, one in the autumn and one in the winter.
Quality Awareness Programme participants September are Ruth Boal, Eileen Joyce, Maria Kearney and Julia Tronina.
2. The childminders ran two Paediatric First Aid courses, one in February and one in September. This course continues to be very popular.
Our first Paediatric First Aid course of 2008 took place on February 23 and March 1 in the Ballymun Partnership. Eleven childminders successfully completed the course and received their certificates.

3. Arts and Crafts Workshop
This workshop took place on Wednesday, October 22, and was delivered by Caroline Kavanagh, who is herself a local childminder. She had previously delivered similar courses to CCCs in other regions. There was a high level of participation from the 26 childminders who took part in the workshop.
