Ballymun Whitehall Education Fair 2011

The Beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you. - BB King.

Organised by Ballymun Whitehall Area Partnership, the Education Fair is an annual event that aims to promote learning, education and training opportunities for adults and young people of all ages right in the heart of their own community. It was officially launched by Minister Roisin Shortall TD while local TD John Lyons was MC for the launch event. A guest speaker from Ballymun, a young man named Darren Scully, impressed the audience with the story of his learning journey.

Information on over 250 courses of all types and over 3,000 places were available on the day. There were opportunities to improve your literacy skills, to do an evening course or to do a college course. Courses ranged from Woodwork to Computers to Start your Own Business Workshops. Organisations exhibiting at the Fair included DCU in the Community, Trinity Comprehensive Adult Education and Whitehall College of Further Education.

During the official launch ceremony , Minister Shortall commended the work of Ballymun Whitehall Area Partnership in promoting education in the community. She also presented certificates to five local Childcare Workers who had completed FETAC Level 5 qualifications in Childcare. Colma Nic Lughadha, Education Programme Manager in the Ballymun Whitehall Area Partnership encouraged people to find out more about education and learning opportunities in their own area by clicking on:

Overall, the day was a great success. Ballymun Whitehall Area Partnership wishes to thank members of the Lifelong Learning Sub Group for their work and everyone who supported the event by attending and participating.
