While in the United States, the group was able to explore ways in which Ireland, Northern Ireland and the U.S. can, in a difficult economic climate, share strategies for economic success. The roles of inward investment, small business promotion, corporate incentive schemes, workforce education and re-education and improved infrastructure in promoting economic regeneration were explored throughout the program. Visits included The Boston Redevelopment Authority, Boston World Partnerships, the Massachusetts Office of International Trade & Investment, the Boise Valley Economic Partnership and the Idaho Small Business Development Centre.
Since returning the group have been actively involved in taking forward theory and models learnt within the U.S. within their respective localities throughout Ireland. In September they will be reconvening in Belfast to design and implement a strategic plan to reconnect with key organisations in Boston and Boise.
