Ballymun Principals Network was established in Autumn 2004. At this time Ballymun Partnership had just finalised its education strategy document called Get It Right First Time; a research study report and education strategy prepared by George Ryan. Having been consulted during the preparation of this strategy document, the principals initially then all met together to discuss this education strategy document with the researcher and Ballymun Partnership. Following this fruitful meeting Ballymun Partnership committed to provide support to the principals to enable them to
- continue to meet,
- develop as a network,
- begin working together to develop and improve educational outcomes for Ballymun children and young people.
The Principals Network embarked on a process to identify priority education development needs. The priorities identified by Ballymun school principals are:
- Literacy development
- Numeracy development
- Information and Communications Technology development
- Increase provision of Specialists i.e. in music, art, drama, sport, IT etc
- Professional development for teachers
- Early Childhood Education
- Encourage increased Parental Involvement
- Promote School Attendance
They are currently discussing and debating these priorities to agree joint actions Ballymun-wide that will address some of these needs.
