Ballymun Education Fair

On the 11th September 2008, Ballymun Education Fair took place in Ballymun Civic Centre all day from 9AM to 7PM. Over 300 people visited and talked to the 35 education, training and learning organisations at the fair that were giving out information and registering people for courses. There were also workshops on throughout the day including Beauty Tips, Song Writing and Crochet that provided people with a taster of some of the educational courses that are available to them.

The official opening of Ballymun Education Fair kicked off with speeches from two Ballymuners who had positive educational stories to share. The Minister for Lifelong Learning Sen Haughey TD then addressed a packed Civic Centre and officially opened the Fair.

There was quite a buzz at the Fair with many of the organisations displaying information commenting on the positive and lively atmosphere and on the keen interest from members of the public who had come along to find out more. Demonstrations on the main stage followed the official launch and drew in a curious crowd. These demos ranged from music and rapping to gardening and woodturning. The stage became another hub of activity alongside the displays.

The Fair ended in the early evening in a lively fashion; firstly with a performance by belly dancers from Trinity Comprehensive Adult Education Programme and then by rhythmic samba drummers from MUNCH at Ballymun Regional Youth Resource. It was an incredibly enjoyable day for all who participated in the event. Ballymun Partnership would like to thank everybody who worked so hard to make the event the success it was and to all who came along to pick up some information for themselves
