Calling Applicants for the 2008 Community Service Programme (CSP)

NDP 2007-2013 Transforming Ireland

The Community Services Programme supports community businesses and social enterprises to deliver local services and employment opportunities for particularly disadvantaged groups in society.

The programme is funded by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs under the National Development Plan 2007 2013 with the overall purpose to:-

  • Alleviate disadvantage in those communities;
  • Promote social and economic development within the communities;
  • Provide employment for those most distant from the labour market;
  • Promote the sustainable and inclusive development of the communities;
  • Strengthen local ownership through participation in decision-making.

Within this broader purpose, CSP funding is focused on certain priority activities and disadvantaged sections of the population.

The 2008 call for the Community Services Programme has now been launched. The types of communities and services which can be considered for support in 2008 are:-

  • Supervising Community Halls and Facilities: the purpose of this strand is to enable community halls and facilities to be open and run on a day to day basis, and to be available for community use.
  • Community Services: delivering practical local services to disadvantaged groups and individuals for example the elderly, people with disabilities, recovering drug misusers, Travellers, island communities and other disadvantaged groups.
  • Community Enterprises:- that provide employment for people most distant from the labour market, including Travellers, people with disabilities, ex-prisoners, recovering substance misusers.

It is not possible to apply directly to Pobal for a Community Services programme grant. Applications and expressions of interest are submitted through integrated local development bodies, primarily Area-based Partnerships, Community Partnerships and LEADER companies. THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION TO THE BALLYMUN PARTNERSHIP IS FRIDAY 30th MAY 2008.
