Anti-Racist Workplace Week is an all island initiative taking place simultaneously in Ireland and Northern Ireland. It reflects a commitment in the National Partnership Agreement 'Towards 2016' that 'racism in the workplace will be proactively addressed in the context of the Anti Racist Workplace Week in keeping with best international practice in this area'.

Anti-Racist Workplace Week is about organisations and enterprises taking initiatives to celebrate cultural diversity in the workplace and to lay foundations for a workplace that is intercultural and integrated. These initiatives will lead to longer term initiatives to create and sustain such a workplace.

As part of Anti Racist Workplace Week, the Equality Authority has nominated B.I.G (Ballymun Intercultural Group) to lead the Anti-Racist Workplace Week campaign locally in Ballymun. A steering group came together to drive this representing BIG, Ballymun Partnership, Ballymun Job Centre, Finglas CUIC, Ballymun Community Law Centre and the Ballymun Library. A menu of events have been organised. A number of Employers have supported the week and are releasing some staff to attend training on intercultural awareness. The theme this year for this national campaign is Integration. BIG may be in a position to support activities locally within your workplace.

Anti-Racist Workplace Week aims to stimulate and support intercultural workplaces especially in relation to those being free from discrimination and harassment, welcoming to Black and minority ethnic (including Traveller) employers and customers and accommodating and valuing cultural and linguistic diversity.

This years theme is Integration and to honour this, a breakfast meeting is being held at the Days Hotel, Santry Cross, and Ballymun from 8a.m. 9.30 a.m. Guest speaker will be John ODonoghue (HR Director of Noonan Services Ltd) who will talk about how employers can provide integrated workplaces for their employees. This will be an ideal opportunity to hear about how you can make your workplace an intercultural centre and there will also be information of special funding which you may avail of to help you take the practical steps to providing an environment which is free of discrimination and providing greater equality for all workers.
