Olivia O'Leary Chairs Public Debate with Local Councillors

The political journalist Olivia O'Leary was in Ballymun recently as chair of a public debate.

The debate involved the three local councillors for the Ballymun/ Whitehall area, Julia Carmichael Fianna Fail; Ray Corcoran Sinn Fein; and Andrew Montague Labour Party. Andrew is also currently Dublin's Deputy Lord Mayor.

The debate was organised by Ballymun Welfare Rights and the Ballymun Partnership and was follow-up to the debate held prior to the local elections in June with the eight candidates up for election.

One of the outcomes of the debate in June was that another one be held once the elected councillors had taken up office. According to Aine Deignan of the Ballymun Partnership "It is very important that people get the chance to debate local issues with their elected public representatives. It is also a useful way for the councillors to stay in touch with the relevant and topical issues."
