Care Assistant Skills Course 2007

This course is aimed at people who would like to work in the Caring Profession as Care Assistants, Home Helps, or Personal Assistants. The course will provide you with some of the essential core caring and communication skills required for seeking employment in the caring industry.

Care assistants, sometimes known as care workers, provide practical help with daily activities to people with a range of difficulties. They work with children, people with physical or learning disabilities, older people or families. They may help people in their own homes, in sheltered housing, day centres or in residential settings such as nursing homes.

Common tasks central to the role of care assistant include:

  • Getting to know individual clients and being aware of their special interests and social needs
  • Supporting clients with daily personal care such as dressing, using the toilet, washing and feeding themselves
  • Undertaking general tasks such as housework, laundry and shopping
  • Helping people organise paying bills, budgeting money and letter writing
  • Giving social and emotional support.

This course will start in March 2007 running 2 mornings per week over a 4 month period. The course is certified by City and Guilds and FETEC.
